5 Ways to Improve SEO on Your Website

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) has become a marketing tool that is essential to a healthy performing website. If you have little or no experience with creating and maintaining SEO for your website, there are a few things you can start doing right now to help your website start performing better.

Get Google Webmaster Tools
You might know of or already use Google Analytic to track all visits to your website; but if you haven’t set up Google Webmaster Tools, you need to. Having Google Webmaster Tools allows you to look at specific search queries to see what keywords people are using to search for your website. Better yet, you can use those keywords in upcoming content to help capitalize on that traffic. Another important thing with Google Webmaster Tools is it allows you to submit a site map of your website to Google in order for their search engine site to better navigate your website.

Utilize Headings and Sub-Headings
When you go to post that new blog or page to your website, you should be utilizing the headings and sub-headings in your text editor within your content. Headings and sub-headings are more commonly known as H1, H2, H3, and so on. By labeling header text in a H1/H2/H3 fashion, search engine’s spiders will be better able to crawl your webpage or blog and pick up on those keywords throughout the content.

Have a Good Meta Description
Meta descriptions are a 156 character call-to-action and description box that is used to help give good SEO to a page. Having a solid Meta description that includes the main keyword(s) used throughout the content will help search engines find your website. Your Meta descriptions also give your audience a brief snippet of the content they are about to read. You should write with the intention of drawing your audience to click to that page and view your content.

Have Original Content
It’s been said that content is king when having a website. Well, it still is…if it’s 100% original and created by you. By the end of December 2014, there were a registered 915,780,262 active website throughout the world according to this survey posted by Net craft. Having authentic and original content not only make your website more interesting, it shows the search engines spiders that crawl your site that the content is unique and original. If you have duplicate content on your website, you can be penalized by search engine sites and fall farther back in organic search rankings.

Be Socially NOT Awkward

We live in a social world when it comes to being online… Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ have revolutionized the way we interact and share things over the web. When it comes to your website, you need to make it easy for others to share your content to their social media profiles and pages. It seems silly but having your website equipped to easily share articles and blogs will help others spread your content around the web and thus adding to the overall SEO umbrella of your website.
